Logo for the Playwrights' Round Table. They're holding auditions for Summer Shorts.Playwrights’ Round Table is casting 18 non-union roles in 8 brand-new short plays for its SUMMER SHORTS production, taking place August 2nd-4th and 9th-11th at the Imagine Performing Arts Center in Oviedo. Each role will earn a stipend of $25 at the end of production.

Auditions will be on June 4th from 7pm to 10pm at the Kitty Beautiful, found at 360 State Lane, Orlando FL. You can sign up for an auditions slot (or submit a video or reel if you can’t make it) at https://auditionsmanager.com/registration.php?AU=2kZu9U1293.

We are casting the following roles, including many roles for older actors. (Note: actors 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.)

THE BOUNDARIES OF ONE’S SELF by Jeff Dunne

Directed by Carla Hanson

Myca – F, 20s, a young woman who is dying
Brent – M, 30s a doctor
Anna – F, 30s, a nurse
One – any gender/non-binary, 20s – a manifestation of Myca

Myca is given an existential choice between life or death.

DECEPTION by Judy Goldstein

Directed by Lara Baker

Dr. Wilson – M, 50+, a pyschiatrist
Larry – M, 50+, his patient

Some secrets should stay secrets.

THE DOG’S TWO SCENTS by Peter Dakutis

Directed by Iris Lynne Sherman

Cat – any gender, race, age – a feline
Dog – any gender, race, age – a canine

Cat and Dog work on their power dynamics.

HAMLET GOES TO THERAPY by Ian Patrick Williams

Directed by Shannon Motherwell

Psychiatrist – M/F, 30s-50s, an Elizabethan doctor
Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark – M, late teens/early 20s, a very angry but confused youth

Hamlet tries to work out his daddy issues with a doctor.

LADIES OF THE NIGHT by Laurie Allen

Directed by Dave Fremland

Mary – F, 60s-80s, lively
Judy – F, 60s-80s, nervous

Two senior ladies break out of the nursing home for freedom.

NEXT STOP by Robert Weibezahl

Directed by Mike Carr

Jimmy – M, 60s-70s, a retiree
Carol – F, 60s-70s, a retiree

Two strangers try to find common ground on a city bus.

PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME, BRETT by Samara Siskind

Directed by Roy Hamlin

Jane – F, 30s, an Uber “passenger”
Brett – M, 30s, an Uber “driver”

An Uber trip takes some strange turns.

THE VA-VA-VOOM by Bethany Dickens

Directed by Cheryl Cox

Jess – F, 20s/early 30s – on her way to a party in a special dress
Andy – F, 50s-60s – on her way home

A special dress provides a special connection for strangers on a train.
